Induction cooktops are more and more popular on the market. Every day thousands of people discover their benefits and a ravishing percent of them decide never to come back to a traditional hob.

In this article, we are going to make an analysis of LG 30″ LCE30845 induction cooktop. Because it has 4 heating elements, can be dropped-in, has a dual-burner cooking zone and looks impressive I would recommend it to a medium or big modern family.

Why do people recommend it? Why are also some restraints in what concerns it? Let’s find together.

1. Controls

The glass touch control is placed ergonomically at you front. Here are the controls:

– Bridge – helps you set the left two cooking zones together as a single large one
– Timer – can be set between 1 to 99 minutes. To adjust it you can use the + and – controls.
– Child Lock – to activate/ deactivate just press and hold for 3 seconds.
– Warm – to select the lowest setting
– Power – can be adjusted from 0 to 9
– Cooking zone controls – for each cooking zone. You can activate them individually: On/Off control, + and – pads. On the display, you will see the power level.

There is also a Hot Surface Indicator (H) that will be on until the cooking surface cools down.

2. Surface

It is 30 inches wide, made from ceramic glass with stainless steel frames up and front. Like any other induction surfaces, it can be easily cleaned. If you want to keep it in great shape as long as possible, be careful not to scratch it with abrasive sponges or by sliding the pot along the surface after cooking is off (just lift it up).

In the user manual, LG gives you plenty of useful information and tips on how to clean the cooktop and remove heavy soil.

3. Heating Elements

Induction coils are placed beneath the cooking surface and they generate magnetic fields. These will eventually heat the bottom of the pan and will help you save time and energy.

LG 30″ LCE30845
has 4 heating elements as follows:

1. LEFT FRONT – power: 1800W (2400W Boost)
2. RIGHT FRONT – power: 1400W (1800W Boost)
3. LEFT REAR – power: 1800W (2400W Boost)
4. RIGHT REAR – power: 2400W (3300W Boost)

Two cooking zones are united and may be used as a single longer one. On these, the minimum size pan should be 5: 3⁄4” (145 mm). On the other cooking zones, the minimum size pan is 5” (125 mm) and 7:1/4” (180 mm).

4. Power/Watts

The power requirement of the unit is 240/208 VAC with 60 Hz and the maximum power is 7.4 kW/6.8 kW.

Power level guide:
– 9 or Boost = fast heating – used to bringing liquids to a boil
– 7-9 = browning/ deep fat frying – used with meat, sauteing, maintaining fast boil
– 6-7 = roasting and frying – for pancakes, eggs, sausages
– 4-5 = boiling, general cooking
– 3-4 = steaming
– 2-3 = simmering
– 1-2, Low = melting – omelettes, keep warm, melting butter
– 0 = off

5. Sensors

If you don’t place a pan or a pot on the cooking zone, there will be no energy transfer between the coil and the cookware. This pan- detector sensor prevents the cooking areas of being turned on and becoming heated by accident.

There is also a pan size detection on the unit. This will automatically detect and adapt each cooking zone to the cookware you are using at a specific moment.

6. Ventilation

The unit is provided with a cooling fan, with 12 v DC and 5.5 x 2EA. You have to be careful and ensure proper ventilation of the cooktop by not leaving strange objects around it or blocking the air vents. If ventilation is obstructed, the unit will automatically turn off.

7. Safety Features

All cooking areas feature a safety turn off. A specific cooking area will automatically shut off if you press the on/off button, but you don’t set the power level within 10 seconds.

On the digital display, there are indicators that warn you if the surface is hot, in order to avoid touching it.

8. Accessories

In the pack, you will find the warranty and the user manual.

Compatible cookware is not included in the pack and you have to make sure you purchase or you already have pans and pots with flat magnetic bottoms.

The magnetic sensors placed below the cooktop surface require cookware with compatible bottoms in order to start the heating process of the pan.

If you don’t know if a pan or pot is suitable to be used with induction cooktop, you can verify its label. Usually, cookware made from steel, steel-enamel and cast-iron will work perfectly.

Avoid using very thin pans. If you do not have a magnet to test the cookware, you can fill a pot with water and place it on the cooking surface, while setting the power level to maximum (9). If the water boils, the cookware is what you need.

Induction has become more and more popular among customers, so manufacturers label their cookware accordingly.

– a little bit difficult to use (at first)

12. Consumer Ratings

In what concerns customers feedback, we should say on Amazon LG 30″ LCE30845 got 3.6 out of 5
stars. Many people are pleased with its futures and design, but there are also a few who declared the appliance did not meet their expectations.

In essence, they complained about the functionality of the touch controls, that are rather inferior as they work unproperly when they get moistured or dirty.

Malfunction is caused by damp towels laying on the surface, drops of water or metal objects that are placed over the controls. While many people understand all these as an important safety measure, the touch controls may seem a little bit sensitive for other people.
