If you never used an induction cooktop before, like me, this is a great place to learn about the right model which will fit your needs.

The Max Burton is a brand of Aervoe Industries Inc with its headquarter in Gardnerville Nevada.

The Max Burton 6200 model is mostly designed for home users, although the Aervoe produces models dedicated to hospitality industries like restaurants. I have found that some buyers use this model in restaurants as an extra place to keep a pot warm and are happy with its performance for the price.

1. Design: look and feel

At first sight this model seems very solidly constructed and easy to use due to very few buttons placed at the right on the control panel. This will avoid any melting of the controls in case of an oversized pan.

There is a lot of plastic material which surrounds the ceramic glass which is a little bit raised so chances of a hot pan reaching the plastic edges are small.

2. Controls

The controls of the Max Burton 6200 model are placed at the right in a concave dip on the front. This idea is a good one because they are protected in case a pan slips close to the plastic area or some water flows over the control panel.

The control panel has an oblique position making it more user friendly then other portable induction coocktops which have an horizontal position.

3. Surface

The surface is made of ceramic glass and is black in color. It has also 2 circles on the surface to guide the user for placing the cookware. The small ring is 5 inches and the other one is 9 inches.

The glass surface has these dimensions: width 9.75 inches and length is 11.5 inches.

As you can see in the picture below the surface gets hot only under the pot. Near the surface it stays warm.

The advantage of ceramic glass makes the Max Burton 6200 safer and burning accidents are reduced to minimum and this way.

Some users did an experiment and have placed a paper towel under the pan and it didn’t get burned. I think that’s an interesting – brave – test but not one I’d suggest you try yourself.

Also when you remove the cooking pan you can touch the surface under it without any problem – it cools very quickly.

The surface is ceramic glass raised about 0.5 cms. Because the surface is very thin the pot will be heated very fast – faster than an electric or gas cooktop.

The surface of the Max Burton 6200 is very resistant to scratches but you still need to pay attention when you take off the pot or pan. It’s better not to slide it but, instead, to lift your pots and pans off of the cooktop.

Cleaning the surface can be done with a micro fiber sponge or cloth. Paper towel is not a good choice because it creates stains.

The manufacturer advices us not to place objects which are heavier than 50 pounds onto the cooktop.

4. Heating Elements

The cooktop has one element that heats the ceramic surface and then the bottom of the pan.

The size of the heating element is 6 inches. You can use a pan with a 10 inch bottom maximum size which is recommended by the manufacturer.

5. Power/Watts

The system must be powered by a 15 amp socket (120V/60Hz) and should be the only item connected in the outlet. The cord length is 5 ft.

The Max Burton 6200 has 2 modes of cooking: power mode and temperature mode.

The power mode has 10 levels and is measured in Watts. It starts with 200 and ends with 1800. The steps are not even. At the beginning the initial watts is 200 and then is reduced to 100 watts after level 5 which is also the default when you turn on the unit.

The temperature mode also has 10 levels and is measured in F degree (with C degree correspondence). It starts at 100 F degree (38 C) and ends at 450 (232 C). The steps are not a fixed number and are better shown in the chart below If you want to cook using temperature mode after you turn on the cooktop you need to press the Function button until the temperature LED is red. The default level is 5 which corresponds to 280 F (137 C).

6. Sensors

The Max Burton 6200 portable cooktop has some sensors which return codes when they are activated. These codes help us to understand what we need to do so the item will work.

Here is the list with sensors and the codes they return:

Pan Sensor detection – this sensor will tell you if the cookware is made for induction. If not the E0 code will appear on the LED display. You need to wait 30 seconds before placing the right cookware.

Internal Overheat Sensor – this sensor will be activated when the internal temperature reaches higher than the secure limit. The Led display shows an E01 code in this case. You need to see if the cooling fan is working or if there is any object which obstructs the ventilation system. You need to unplug the item and wait 10 minutes for cooling down.

Ceramic Glass overheating Sensor – this sensor will be activated when the temperature exceeds the 450 F. The code displayed will be E02 and the item will shut down after 1 minute. You need to unplug the cooktop, wait 10 minutes and try again, if the same code appears you need to use another size of cookware. Also check the cooling fan to make sure it’s working.

Incorrect Voltage Sensor – this sensor is activated when the input voltage is too low or high and will shutdown the portable cooktop after 1 minute. You need to unplug the cooktop and to check the voltage to be 110/120 V AC. Try to change the electrical outlet to see if get the same error.

7. Ventilation

The Max Burton 6200 model has the ventilation system placed at front left and back right.

In the front it has the Cool Air Inlet and Fan from where the air gets into the system and at the back there is the Warm Air Exhaust Fan used to send the hot air out.

The noise is at an acceptable level.

The fan will still working a while after you shut off the cooktop to cool down it.

The manufacturer advises us to have at least 4 inches free space around the cooktop and to not place it on metal surface which can get hot.

In case the ventilation system is not working the cooktop will over heat and you will get error codes like: E01 and E02 and the system will shut down after 1 minute.

8. Safety Features

The cooktop complies with ETL (UL 1026 requirement) and FCC (Part 18).

All its 4 sensors help the user to avoid burning accidents, starting with the cookware sensor presence which will make the item beep if you take the pot off of it (every 10 seconds) and the surface cools down very fast. It ends with the voltage sensor which will let you know if there is any problem with the outlet.

Also the Automatic Timer which turns off the system after a time you have preset help us.

Still we have to pay attention to not forget food on cooktop being at a high temperature level.

9. Accessories

The package contains the cooktop Max Burton 6200 model and the user manual.

You will need compatible induction cookware. I have noticed s few cookware brands that people are successfully using: Farberware Millenneum, Vollrath “Tribute”, Martha Stewart Tri-ply and Fagor Casa Esential Everyday Pan.

In case you already have cookware but not induction compatible you can buy Max Burton Induction Interface Disk, which act like an “adapter”.

Also – but not necessary – there are cleaning solutions made for induction cooktops like Bryson Multi Purpose .

10. Dimensions

Here are the dimensions of Max Burton 6200 portable induction cooktop:

14. Consumer Ratings

After reading a lot of consumer reviews about this product I have noticed that almost 85% of buyers who wrote a review are very happy with their purchase, a few even bought 2 of these cooktops.

The other 15% gave a lower rating for this item but it seems most of them did that because they didn’t know how induction really works and they needed some time and patience to accommodate the new technology.

15. Price

The manufacturer lists the price at 115 USD on their website for the Max Burton 6200 (SKU 62001, they call the model Deluxe Induction Cooktop and Amazon list it as Max Burton 6200 Deluxe).

From my point of view this model is worth the money, being big enough and at the same time lightweight, and the Amazon discount makes it even more attractive.

16. F.A.Q

1. Can I use an 11-inch smoker pan with this Max Burton 6200 induction cooktop?

You should know that the burner of the cooktop is about 10 inches, but even with that 1/2 inch overlap, your pan will work as long as the pan is magnetic. You can test it with a magnet and if the magnet sticks to the pan will be heated.

17. User Manual
